The Spring semester at VIKO has started with the Orientation Week for newly-arrived international students
As moving to a new country and attending a completely different university for one semester is quite challenging, international students have to see as many places, hear as many necessary information and meet as many new people as possible as a result of which they will be easily integrated into the Lithuanian society and will be helped out in case of need.
For that reason, the Orientation Week was organised at VIKO during which, the newly-arrived international students received more information about Lithuania, Vilnius, VIKO and its provided services (IT, library, sport) that they will be using during exchange period. Students learned a bit of a Lithuanian language for basic communication purposes, met Lithuanian and foreign mentors of VIKO, who are eager to help them out in case of need, visited the Trakai island castle and the old town of Vilnius with guided excursions to hear more about the history and culture of Lithuania.
Additionally, the International evening was organised which is an inseparable cultural part of Orientation Week. The newly-arrived foreign students had a chance to listen to Lithuanian songs and learn Lithuanian dances while also representing their own countries and cultures to the international audience. This time, VIKO fork group “Želmuo” represented Lithuanian culture which was followed by the performances of students from Moldova, Albania, Germany, Algeria, India and Georgia. The evening was finished with the tasting of the rich and tasty Lithuanian cuisine.
We wish all VIKO foreign students a successful study semester and unforgettable experience with beautiful memories and lots of Lithuanian and international friends.
