Vilnius kolegija/Higher Education Institution’s Social Responsibility Initiatives Contributing to Sustainable Development Goals
Vilniaus kolegija/ Higher Education Institution (HEI) has released its 2024 Report on Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the institution’s commitments, key initiatives, and results in the areas of sustainability, responsible governance, and strategic institutional development.
The report emphasizes the essential role of higher education institutions in building a sustainable society through transparent management, inclusive learning environments, collaboration with social partners, and efforts to reduce environmental impact. Vilniaus kolegija implements these principles by updating study content, conducting applied research, and partnering with businesses, municipalities, and civil society organizations.
In 2024, the VIKO actively participated in international projects, strengthened its engagement on the European level, and renewed its set of sustainability indicators. As a long-standing member of the United Nations Global Compact, Vilniaus kolegija/HEI continued its commitment to global sustainable development goals. Notably, the institution is the only representative from Lithuania in the HEROES European University Alliance, which focuses on strengthening societal resilience through smart, human-centered innovations.
One of the key developments of the year was the institutional merger: by resolution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Vilniaus kolegija and Vilnius College of Technologies and Design were reorganized into a single higher education institution. As of July 1, 2024, Vilniaus kolegija has become one of the largest professional higher education institutions not only in Lithuania but across the Baltic region.
The report is based on the 2022–2025 Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Programme, which highlights the core institutional values of community engagement, equality, environmental responsibility, civic-mindedness, transparency, and proactivity.
